Your Profile and Contact Details
Manage your email addresses and phone numbers, confirm them, and choose how your organization reaches you
Overview
This guide is for members. It covers where your details live, how to add and confirm the email addresses and phone numbers your organization uses to reach you, and how to choose which of them it uses.
The one thing to remember: messages only go to confirmed contact details. An email address or phone number you've added but not confirmed receives nothing.
If you haven't joined a group yet, start with Joining Your Organization.
Your Hubara account and your organization profile
Your details live in two places.
| Where | What it holds | Applies to |
|---|---|---|
| Your Hubara account | Your name, photo and email addresses | Every organization you belong to |
Your organization profile (My Profile, at /profile on your organization's website) | Your phone numbers, Delivery Preferences, Group Memberships and My Registrations | Mostly this organization -- though phone numbers are shared, see below |
To get from your organization profile to your Hubara account, click Manage in your Hubara account on the card headed Name, photo and email addresses. That opens the Your Hubara account page.
The Account Settings card at the top of My Profile only displays your name and sign-in email address. You can't edit them there -- change them in your Hubara account.
Manage your email addresses
Email addresses are managed on the Email addresses card in your Hubara account. Each address is listed with a Confirmed or Not confirmed label, and one of them is marked Primary.
To add an address:
- Click Add email address.
- Type it into New email address.
- Click Add. Hubara confirms the address was added and reminds you to confirm it.
To confirm an address:
- Click Send confirmation email next to the address. Hubara shows "Confirmation link sent to" that address.
- Open the email and click the link inside.
- The address now shows Confirmed.
To remove an address, click the trash button next to it and confirm. You can't remove your only address. Any organization that was sending to the removed address falls back to another confirmed address of yours.
Add and confirm a phone number
Phone numbers are managed on your organization profile, in the Contact Information card under Phone Numbers. You can do this while your request to join a group is still waiting for approval.
- Click + Add Phone.
- Type your number into Add Phone Number -- for example
(555) 123-4567. - Click Add. Hubara texts a 6-digit code to the number straight away and shows "We texted a 6-digit code to" your number, "Enter it next to the number below." The number appears with "⚠ Not confirmed" beside it and a box for the code.
- Type the code from the text message.
- Click Verify. The number now shows "✓ Confirmed".
If the code doesn't arrive, wait for the countdown on Resend to finish, then click Resend.
Send code appears only next to a number that is already listed as Not confirmed with no code on its way -- for example, a number a leader added for you, or one whose code expired. Click it to get a fresh code -- Hubara shows "We texted a 6-digit code to" your number, "Enter it below." -- then type the code and click Verify.
To remove a number, click the trash button on its row and confirm. You can't remove your only number -- add another one first.
Phone numbers are part of your Hubara account, even though you manage them here, so a number you confirm in one organization counts as confirmed in every organization you belong to.
Why confirmation matters
Your organization only sends messages to confirmed email addresses and phone numbers. Confirming proves the address or number is really yours, so messages don't go to a stranger because of a typo.
If you haven't confirmed any email address, you receive no email from your organization. If you haven't confirmed any phone number, you receive no texts.
Where your messages go
By default:
- Email goes to your Primary address if it's confirmed. If it isn't, email goes to another of your confirmed addresses.
- Texts go to every phone number you've confirmed.
If you sign in with a text-message code to a number that isn't on your profile yet, Hubara adds that number as confirmed for you. A number that's already listed but marked Not confirmed still needs Send code.
To change this for one organization, use the Delivery Preferences for card on your organization profile -- it's headed with your organization's name. It lists your confirmed email addresses and phone numbers. You can:
- choose which confirmed addresses and numbers this organization may use, by ticking or unticking them;
- turn on Do not send me email from your organization, or Do not send me text messages from your organization;
- click Use my primary contact details instead to go back to the default.
Click Save preferences when you're done. These settings apply to that organization only -- your other organizations are unaffected.
Until you save a choice, the card ticks only your primary phone number, but texts still go to every phone number you've confirmed.
Group messages start only after a leader approves your request to join -- see While you wait for approval.
Subscribe to your group's calendar
To see your group's events in your own calendar app, use the Add to Google Calendar or Add to Apple Calendar button above your group's calendar on its website. For Outlook or the step-by-step version, see Calendar Subscriptions.
Troubleshooting
The verification code never arrived. Check that the number is typed correctly. Wait for the countdown on Resend to finish, then click Resend.
I'm not getting texts. Check that your number shows "✓ Confirmed" under Phone Numbers. Then check the Delivery Preferences for card: make sure Do not send me text messages from is off, and, if you've saved a choice there, that the number is ticked.
I'm not getting emails. Check that you have at least one confirmed email address in your Hubara account -- an address marked Not confirmed receives nothing. Then check the Delivery Preferences for card: make sure Do not send me email from is off, and that a confirmed address is ticked.
I'm approved but still not getting group messages. Make sure the group appears under Active Memberships on your profile. If it's still under Pending Requests, a leader hasn't approved you yet.
